Intestinal disaccharidase activity in rosacea.

چکیده
Recently intestinal disaccharidase deficiency has been identified as one cause of carbohydrate intolerance (Durand, 1958; Auricchio et al., 1963; Kern et al., 1963 ; Dahlqvist, 1964; McMichael et al., 1965; Sheehy and Anderson, 1965). The disaccharidases are produced and act within the cells of the intestinal epithelium (Miller and Crane, 1961). Enzyme deficiencies may be found singly or combined, and in normal or diseased epithelium. Histologically demonstrable smallbowel disease is a common feature of rosacea (Watson et al., 1965), so that disaccharidase deficiency might occur and account wholly or partly for the alimentary disturbance which is found in 75 % of patients.

Intestinal disaccharidase activities in the chick.
1. Disaccharidase activities of the small and large intestines of the chick were studied. 2. Homogenates of the small intestine readily hydrolysed maltose, sucrose and palatinose (6-O-alpha-d-glucopyranosyl-d-fructose), hydrolysed lactose slowly and did not hydrolyse trehalose and cellobiose. 3. Within the small intestine the disaccharidases were located mainly in the intestinal wall; the activ...

Hypoglycemic effects were investigated in the ethanolic extract of fruits of Phyllanthus emblica Linn. with long evans rats (100 120 g). Residual gut sucrose content, gut perfusion and disaccharidase activity studies were carried out to assess these activities. The residual gut sucrose content study was carried out to reveal the amount of sucrose remaining in the gastro intestinal tract (GIT) a...

2. With the ourified diet there were no differences in bodv-weight or small intestinal di. sacchnridase activities between germ-free and conventional chicks. With the chick mash the germ-free birds were heavier and had higher total amounts of maltase, sucrase and palatinase activities in the small intestine than did their conventional controls. When disaccharidase activities were expressed in t...
متن کاملIntestinal disaccharidase deficiency in children with coeliac disease.
In a recent paper on their experiences with intestinal biopsy in children with coeliac disease, Sheldon and Tempany (1966) included evidence of a reduction in disaccharidase activity in many of the biopsies, thus confirming recently published observations (Plotkin and Isselbacher, 1964; Shmerling, Auricchio, Rubino, Hadorn, and Prader, 1964; Nordio, Lamedica, Vignolo, and Berio, 1965; Lifshitz,...
متن کاملDisaccharidase activity in the small intestine of gerbils (Meriones unguiculatus) during primary and challenge infections with Giardia lamblia.
The sequence of changes in the activity of six disaccharidases in the small intestine of gerbils during primary and secondary G lamblia infections was examined. The primary G lamblia infection induced a transient reduction in disaccharidase activity which was related to the highest trophozoite burden in the small intestine. During the primary exposure, a 30% to 85% decrease in the activity of e...
